Ben Sheets set to start on Sunday for Atlanta Braves - MLB Update
With two Minor League starts, Ben Sheets is ready to make an entry in the season. As far as his performance in those games is concerned, one can observe caution in being optimistic. This is due to the fact that he leaked runs more than what one expects from
a Major League starter.
Braves intend to strengthen their rotation after they have seen their starting pitcher Brandon Beachy getting injured and declared out from the rest of the regular season.
Having Beachy injured was a big blow to them. The fact he was maintaining lowest ERA in the season, Ben Sheets will require something out of the ordinary to happen from his hands to become a reliable replacement.
For keeping their position intact, Atlanta need all of their starters to throw scoreless innings from the start of the games on consistent basis.
Since their bullpen is relatively stronger, only if they can manage to see quality innings at the start, the chances of their success will grow manifold.
In this regard, the manager Fredi Gonzalez is extremely hopeful that Sheets will fit in the equation perfectly.
He stated this after he observed him while he threw the bullpen session.
"I wasn't watching anything other than that he felt good and all of a sudden, Oh, my shoulder's sore or my arm's sore," Gonzalez said. "But he was fine and threw some pretty good curveballs."
Similarly, Sheets steps up to claim that he is feeling great with his arms. Therefore, he can throw impeccable innings from the mound, he maintained.
"Everything's working," Sheets said. "Everything's feeling great. I've been throwing the ball good. Keep making good pitches, you'll get outs."
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen as to how many innings Sheets will be throwing per game. In light of the fact that he is returning to the Majors after a span of two years, the Braves will probably limit him to around four to five innings.
Sundays’ game is going to be a challenge for Sheets. He will be looking to put up an impressive performance and become an important link in the Braves' success in the season.
