Ben Spies fastest in rain-hit free practice 2 at Aragon Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Ben Spies of Yamaha Factory Racing topped the rain hit Aragon circuit at Spainish Grand Prix during the free practice 2.
It was anticipated that the free practice two would be a dry event but heavy showers for a short period of time, prior to FP2 made the circuit wet, covering dry patches which had restricted most of the riders in pits during the first practice session. All
drivers went on the wet circuit but did not push hard to avoid any unfortunate incident.
The fastest lap was registered by Spies in 2 minutes and 0.219 seconds with a top speed of 324.6 km/h. He was followed by the Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa with a gap of 0.066 seconds. The runner up in title contention edged every other rider with his
highest speed of 330.5 km/h proving the strength of his Honda machine at his home circuit.
The Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo’s fastest lap was ranked 3rd in the FP2. He completed his fastest lap in 2 minutes and 0.746 seconds. The championship leader told that he did not push hard. The Ducati rider, Nicky Hayden, proved the improved performance of
his machine by making it to the 4th position on the wet circuit.
Stefan Bradl of LCR Honda MotoGP followed Andrea Dovizioso of Monster Yamaha Tech3 at 6th position. While Cal Crutchlow teammate of Dovizioso could only make it to the 7th position. The Ducati rider Valentino Rossi who wanted to test the new setting of his
bike could not cross the 8th position. 9th and 10th position was attained by Karel Abraham of Cardion AB Motoracing and Alvaro Bautista of San Carlo Honda Gresini, respectively.
Jonathan Rea replacement for the injured Casey Stoner of Repsol Honda made it to the 11th position. Turn 1 at the Spanish circuit was challenging for the riders as they pushed hard to improve their lap times in the preceding straights. Riders have early
commented that Aragon is a circuit where they enjoy riding but its ups and downs make it challenging as well.
The results are expected to shuffle in the qualifying round as the riders did not push hard due to the wet circuit however it is forecasted that it will be a cloudy weekend.
