Ben Spies of Yamaha Factory Racing crashes in Czech Republic Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Ben Spies of Yamaha Factory Racing crashed in the Czech Republic Grand Prix, held on Sunday.
He said that the crash, that happened with just 8 laps to go, was his own fault when he was trying to get back in rhythm. He added that he was trying to catch up to the group he was following as he had good lap times.
Spies said, “The crash today was no other fault than myself, I was trying to get back into a rhythm and catch the group in front of me because I could see they were coming back and I had a good lap times for coming through.”
Furthermore, he said that he is disappointed not only for himself but for the team as well because they have done an excellent job over the last weekend. He added that they had exhibited excellent speed and motivation during the weekend which was a hard
nut to crack after the United States Grand Prix and Indianapolis Grand Prix.
“I’m really disappointed not just for me but for the team as they’ve done an excellent job this weekend, we’ve showed speed and motivation all weekend which is hard to do after Laguna and Indy. The race was really over for me before turn one because the
clutch overheated off the line,” he said.
Moreover, he said that he had started facing problems from the very first corner because the clutch of his bike had started heating and no one was at fault. He said that they have checked the stats and his race starts were identical to the starts during
practice sessions.
The American rider said that they have checked the clutch and there was nothing wrong with it. He added that it took more than two laps to come to normal temperature and give its performance. He said that by that time the race was over.
He said that despite of the problems with the clutch, he tried to get the maximum performance he could and in doing so he made a small mistake and crashed.
Brno Grand Prix was the third consecutive race in which he was unable to make it to the finish line, after United States GP and Indianapolis GP.
