Ben Spies prepares for Yamaha celebrations at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca – MotoGP news
Yamaha Factory Racing rider Ben Spies is preparing to dominate the tenth MotoGP event, the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.
It is Spies’ first home event before the premier class visits Indianapolis.
Similar to the Dutch TT Assen event, the Yamaha factory team will celebrate its 50th anniversary of grand prix racing. It was the event where Ben Spies finished as a winner, collecting his maiden grand prix success in his second season.
Spies said, “It’s always exciting to race in front of the home crowd and it’s going to be a big event for Yamaha with the 50th anniversary colours being run again. They were lucky for me at Assen and hopefully they can bring me more luck in front of my friends
and family.”
The Yamaha team will again carry the red and white livery over their YZR-M1s and all over the garages. The red-white livery was lucky for Spies and it might bring some luck for the team again.
Spies commented about his AMA series race days at Seca and said, “I’ve had some pretty good results in my AMA days at Laguna and I love riding the circuit. It’s going to be a serious race weekend but it’s also going to be a lot of fun so I’m looking forward
to seeing a lot of old faces at the track.”
The American rider has collected three AMA Superbike series race wins at the Californian venue, Laguna Seca. During 2010 as his rookie season, Spies was able to score a decent sixth place at his home event.
Keeping in mind his last victory was under the new bright, red-white livery he feels more confident to show his winning potential in front of his countrymen.
Spies’ teammate, Jorge Lorenzo has also set an aim to extend the pressure on Casey Stoner for the championship. Lorenzo now stands 15 points adrift from the Aussie rider. The Spaniard is determined to hunt him down within the next few races. Let’s see if
he’s able to do that.
