Ben Spies says Monster Yamaha Tech3 riders were quick in the end of Aragon Grand Prix – MotoGP news
Ben Spies of Yamaha Factory Racing made it to the 5th position in the Spanish Grand Prix at the Aragon circuit.
Their bike was not performing as required to overtake Andrea Dovizioso and Cal Crutchlow of Monster Yamaha Tech3. He suffered with some grip issues in the beginning and middle of the race.
The American rider told that he was not comfortable with the front tyre of his bike during the start and middle of race. He told that he tried to follow Dovizioso and Crutchlow so he may attain the lead if they made any mistake.
Spies said, “I struggled a bit with the front tyre today at the beginning and then in the middle of the race. I tried to keep Dovi and Cal at bay as long as I could. Once they passed me I tried to hold onto the back of them in case they made a mistake.”
Additionally, he told that he was satisfied with his bike but it should have been performing better to edge the Monster Yamaha Tech3 riders. Although he tried his best but was still unable to make it to the podium.
“The bike was working well we just didn’t have it working as exactly as we needed to stay with them. We did our best they were just too quick in the end,” he added.
In the beginning of the race the American rider was performing well and was following Dani Pedrosa of Repsol Honda and Jorge Lorenzo of Yamaha Factory Racing at the third position however after a few laps he faced some grip issues with his bike and was consequently
dropped by two positions.
Spies managed to sustain his fifth position and completed the race with a gap of 13.786 seconds from the race winner Pedrosa. He had started his race at the 4thgrid. Spies had expected better results prior to the race however he was unable to attain his
desired result due to the impressive performance of the duo Monster Yamaha Tech3 riders.
Let’s see how the American rider performs at the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix because he has recently recovered from his three consecutive unlucky crashes.
