Ben Spies says decision of leaving Yamaha Factory Racing was made quite a while ago – MotoGP news
Ben Spies, rider of Yamaha Factory Racing told that the decision to leave the team was taken quite a while ago however, he was waiting for the right time to break the news.
Spies announced that he has decided that he will leave Yamaha in the upcoming season 2013, but he will keep racing for the Japanese team in the current season and he will be giving his 100% in Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, to be held on the coming Sunday July
29, 2012.
Furthermore, he told that there were a lot of reasons to announce his departure from Yamaha at this particular time. He added that one of the reasons was just to get a bit more relaxed and he wanted to get rid off of the burden he had due to this decision.
Moreover, he said that another reason was that at present many contracts were being made. Therefore, he thought that it was the right time to announce the news. He added that this piece of information was the only which he could expose, and he cannot add
more to it until the right time.
The American said that after breaking the news he feels that burden is off his shoulders and he is free of mind now.
He added, “I’ve known for quite a bit what my personal decision was and I thought this was the right time to do it with all the contracts happening with other riders. There’s a litany of reasons behind it - just getting back to stress-free and doing what
I want to do and finish out the season strong.”
He went on to say, “For sure, especially at Laguna we’re going to give 100 per cent and we want to do what we’re capable of doing and what the bike’s capable of doing for the team. Nothing changes from that standpoint.”
Rumours are that Valentine Rossi will be the new driver in place of Spies.
Jorge Lorenzo, the other driver for Yamaha, is of the view that he has enjoyed racing with the Italian rider as a teammate. Lorenzo has told earlier that he would enjoy racing with a good competitor. The leading champion added that he has enjoyed racing
with Rossi as a teammate however he was not sure if the news was true.
