Ben Spies suffers bad luck in United States Grand Prix at Laguna Seca – MotoGP news
Ben Spies of Yamaha Factory Racing faced a crash at Laguna Seca in United States Grand Prix last Sunday.
He was able to make it to the 11th lap but then he could not control his bike.
Spies said that he was feeling very comfortable with his bike at the start of the race although he did not have grip over the bike he used to have in the earlier sessions with the harder tyres. Later, they had a technical failure in the swingarm.
He added that he was not comfortable with the drive therefore he started pulling a little in the last ten laps.
Furthermore, he said that he was trying to develop a good lead but then at the corkscrew his bike went out under him. He added that the bike did not slip or slide, it just went out of control.
Moreover, he said that it was good that he got out of the crash safely and there was no one there.
The American rider is of the view that no one can be blamed for the mishap at Laguna Seca as the crash was only because of bad luck.
Spies said, “We had a technical failure in the swingarm. I was feeling really good, I didn’t have the grip that I had in the earlier sessions with the harder tyre but in the last ten laps I was starting to pull away and I had a little left up my sleeve.
We started to stretch out a lead over Dovi then all of a sudden at the bottom of the corkscrew the bike went out from underneath me. I had no control, it didn’t slide or anything just completely went.”
The accident at Laguna Seca resulted in breaking the swingarm of the bike of the American rider thus he was unable to continue with the race. However, before crashing he was exhibiting a wonderful performance and was fighting for the third place. He attained
his 4th grid place right from the start of the race.
Before the start of the race Spies was of the view that he will try to give his best performance until he is racing with Yamaha.
