Ben Spies thrilled on getting a ride with Ducati – MotoGP news
Ben Spies says he is excited to be a member of Ducati Racing in the upcoming season.
At Madonna di Campiglio, Ducati unveiled their bike for the 2013 MotoGP season on Tuesday night. Spies was also taking part in the ceremony and this was his first appearance as a Ducati rider.
2012 was the worst MotoGP season for the 28-year-old Spies. He could not post even a single podium and finished a grim 10th on final riders’ standings with only 88 championship points to his name. From 2009 until 2012, Spies rode for Yamaha but failed to
make an impact. 4 podiums and a sole Grand Prix win was all Spies could achieve in his Yamaha career.
Spies retired from Yamaha at the end of 2012 and will be riding for Ducati Pramac Racing Team in the upcoming season. In the Yamaha team, Valentino Rossi will be taking Spies’ place.
“I am excited to be a part of the Ducati family. This is something I've wanted from the beginning of my racing career. My team and I have our work cut out for us and new goals to meet, but we'll benefit from factory support and Audi coming on board. Ducati
has four strong riders with different styles, which should improve the Desmosedici and bring it back up to the top where it belongs,” Spies said in the weekly Wrooom Press Ski Meeting in Italy.
Francesco Guidotti, the Ducati manager was hopeful that the addition of Spies to the team will eventually prove to be a fruitful decision.
“With Ben, we'll endeavour to speed up the development process on the bike to achieve our objectives quickly. We're enthusiastically looking forward to the 2013 season,” Guidotti said.
If Spies is to have any chance of a successful and bright MotoGP future, the American rider will have to perform better in 2013 MotoGP season. Although Spies will not be riding in the factory team, still he will find ample opportunities to improve his riding
skills and give his competitors something to think about.
