Ben Swift wins the second stage of the Tour of Pologne
Ben Swift of Team Sky Procycling failed to make it through the final team squad for the Tour de France and the cyclist is currently trying his legs at the Tour of Pologne.
He rode brilliantly during the 239.4 kilometre chase to Opole in the quickest time of 5 hours, 49 minutes and 57 seconds to bag his first victory at the Polish event.
Elia Viviani of Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Tom Boonen of Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep, John Degenkolb of Team Argos Shimano and Sacha Modolo of Team Colnago-CSF Inox occupied the next four positions.
"It was unbelievable at the end; (Juan Antonio) Flecha did a h**l of a lot of work to move us all into position around that circuit," he told teamsky.com.
“I think the cobbles excited him! And then Mat Hayman did a massive turn to get me almost right to the line. I was quite disappointed yesterday because I’d done all the work to get over the last climb and then right at the very top I punctured".
"It’s always hard to look at those results when you know you should have been in with a good chance of winning".
Lukasz Bodnar of Polish National Team succeeded during the first, the second and the third sprints of the race and secured nine important UCI points.
The 24-year-old marked his professional debut with Team Katusha in 2009 and spent a time of one period with the side.
He accepted an offer from Team Sky in 2010 and is continuing his third consecutive term with the team.
Swift finished first during the Scratch Race World Championships and also succeeded at the stage 2 of the Polish race.
