Ben Woollaston marries Tatiana during PTC Event 1, aims high in 2011 Australian Goldfields Open
Englishman Ben Woollaston married his girlfriend Tatiana, a Belarusian snooker referee, in her hometown of Pinsk, following a ten-month romance. The couple tied the knot during last week’s Players
Tour Championship (PTC) Event 1.
Both Ben and Tatiana met at last year’s Paul Hunter Classic (PTC Event 4) in Germany and their relation followed, resulting in their marriage in Pinsk with a snooker table shaped wedding cake.
At their wedding, the former European Under-19 champion, Woollaston shared his story, "We met backstage at the tournament in Germany and got on well straight away. In the new year I went to live in
Belarus for a few months at Tatiana's flat in the capital Minsk, not far from Pinsk where her family live. People might think we've done things quickly but we knew it was right."
The Leicester potter, Woollaston participated in the first event of PTC at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield with high hopes. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old crashed out of the event in first
round at the hands of Nigel Bond by 4-2.
However, the world number 69 is now determined to reach the Last-32 of 2011 Australian Goldfields Open running from July 18 to 24, in hopes of making his way into the Top 64. He is ready for his match
against Adam Duffy in the second round of 2011 Australian Goldfields Open qualifiers starting from Sunday, June 26.
The player spoke to the reporters about his ambition in the 2011-12 Snooker Season, "I lost in the first round of the PTC this week but I'd not played for a month before that so I just looked at it
as a warm up for next week's Australia qualifiers. I'm feeling good about this season, I want to get into the top 64 and play a few matches on TV."
Woollaston has now come back to UK while Tatiana has plans to stay at Belarus for a week and get her passport updated so that she can join her husband in UK. However, she has decided to referee in
the PTC events and hopes to play her part in the high ranking events in future.
