Benartic set for cracking show in £32 Bonus At 32Red.com Handicap at Southwell
Benartic, who has spent most of his career over jumps, is aiming to make an impact on Flat. The 8-year-old showed a touch of class a couple of years ago, when winning a Fibresand bumper at Southwell. The Harry Dunlop-trained is yet to taste success this
season, but his recent handicap debut at Kempton is good enough to suggest that he is all set for a crack in the £32 Bonus At 32Red.com Handicap, to be held on Tuesday, November 06, 2012.
After facing a few unlucky defeats at different venues, the son of Beneficial went to Kempton, where he performed magnificently. Over a distance of two miles, the dashing runner maintained the highest standards in the hands of Dane O'Neill. The 33-1 chance
tracked the leader soon after the start.
By making significant progress, he went second over 3f out. At one stage, he was in command, but staying on one pace in the final furlong hurt his chances badly. As a result, he could only secure the second position, missing the crown only by two and a half
lengths.
Although the Derrygrath Stud-bred could not trouble the leader in the final moments, he did well to beat the 11-8 favourite, Looks Like Rain, by 1¾ lengths. Having made a wonderful handicap debut, the bay gelding is full of power at the moment. So, it will
not be something of a surprise, if he dominates the proceedings in today’s contest.
Owned by Sir Eric Parker & Mary Anne Parker, the big fellow is going to face eight opponents. According to the plan, the class 5 meeting will be started off at 15:10 GMT. The 2-mile event carries a prize of £2,264, which is reserved for the ultimate champion.
The main danger is Mason Hindmarsh. The 5-year-old has been showing great form on turf, but has a few questions to answer on this surface. Another exciting contestant is Irish Jugger, who is making his way back to the ring under the command of new trainer,
Michael Appleby. The 5-year-old is well handicapped on his old form here, and could pose a threat. Good luck to all.
