Benayoun Plays The Blame Game Once Again

Former Liverpool player Yossi Benayoun has been quick to blame the Chelsea medical team after he was ruled out for six months, following the latest results. Benayoun had to be taken off during Chelsea’s 3-2 defeat to Newcastle United in the Carling Cup fixture
when he complained of leg pain. It has now been revealed that the injury is more serious than originally thought, it is the dreaded Achilles injury.
However, he was given the go ahead by the Chelsea medical staff to go to Israel to perform international duty. He was an important player in their 2012 Euro qualifying campaign, scoring a hat trick against Malta and playing a key role in the draw against
Georgia. It was the national medical doctor, Mark Rosnovsky, who discovered and diagnosed the injury and revealed that the Israeli international would require surgery and would at the least be unavailable for six months.
An official club statement released recently stated that the Israeli midfielder would be sidelined for six months, which means he will miss most of the season and returns towards the end of the season, when the season has been decided. It started, “Yossi
Benayoun will undergo surgery on his Achilles [tendon] on Monday. The Israeli international returned to the club from international duty last week, and will now be out of action for approximately six months.”
Benayoun told reporters, “The entire situation is very strange. I had three MRI scans and three ultrasounds under the Chelsea doctors and they all said it was just a small tear. So I went over to Israel ready to play and they told me it was a big tear. Chelsea
were sure it was something small. They do not understand how they missed it. They said it is unusual to have such a big tear and not be in terrible pain. Even now I am not in pain but I cannot take one step by myself until I undergo surgery.”
It is very strange indeed that the highly qualified Chelsea medical team missed such a big injury, and as a result of that Yossi Benayoun is now out for six months. Benayoun was one of the two big signings brought to Stamford Bridge by Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti.
Even in the initial stages, it was argued by many that the former Liverpool midfielder would not really be needed at Chelsea, he is not only too old to adapt to another club, his fitness levels are not what they used to be, as shown by this recent injury.
With the current series of events; the injury and pointing the finger at the Chelsea medical staff to be specific, one cannot help but agree that bringing Benayoun in exchange for Joe Cole was not a very bright idea. Carlo Ancelotti does not make many mistakes,
the man is a genius, but if there’s one mistake he’s made in his career, it was to bring Yossi Benayoun to Chelsea. If losing him early on for the rest of the season was not bad enough, one can only hope that the Blues are not jinxed with the “Benayoun curse”.
The Benayoun curse as it has come to be known has taken its toll on all his previous clubs; they have not won a single trophy while he was with them. After leaving Liverpool, Benayoun had the audacity to present himself as the victim in this situation, saying
he had to suffer not winning anything for eight years, blaming the club, blaming the manager, blaming the other players, blaming everyone else but himself. Maybe he should step back and realize that it was neither the club, nor the manager and the players,
but himself.
Benayoun hopes to return towards the end of the season, provided the surgery is a success, he said, “I hope Chelsea have a successful season so I can come back and help win trophies in the final weeks.” It can simply be said that not many Chelsea supporters
will be looking forward to his comeback, he did not impress too much in the few matches that he did feature in. Apart from that, Salomon Kalou and Jeffery Bruma are expected to make their return soon, and they will be welcomed back with open arms as the Blues
get set to win more silverware.
