Bence Biczo dominates Men’s 200m butterfly heats: Day three – European LC Championships
Bence Biczo of Hungary dominated the qualification rounds of Men’s 200m butterfly on day three of the European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Wednesday, May 23.
The 19-year-old Biczo demonstrated his stupendous efforts in the four-lap butterfly event and qualified into the next round as top contender for gold medal.
With his stupendous efforts, he stayed nearly two strokes ahead of his strongest competitor and hit the finishing end for first position by posting a time of 1 minute and 57.47 seconds.
He was followed by Dinko Jukic of Austria, who stayed 0.22 seconds apart and made his way into the semi-final as second best swimmer by producing a time of 1 minute and 57.69 seconds.
The Austrian veteran was trailed by Laszlo Cseh of Hungary, who suffered a deficit of almost 0.40 seconds and entered the semi-final as third finest swimmer by producing a time of 1 minute and 58.08 seconds.
Fourth qualifying position of the discipline was secured by Ioannis Drymonakos of Greece, who was only 0.08 seconds slower and tapped the finishing wall with an effort of 1 minute and 58.16 seconds.
Next were the preliminary rounds of Women’s 200m individual Medley (IM), where Katinka Hosszu of Hungary overpowered her challengers with her smothering efforts.
The 23-year-old Hosszu faced no trouble in clinching the top qualification spot of the event and entered the semi-final by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 11.10 seconds.
Her fastest qualification effort was trailed by her teammate, Evelyn Verraszto, who remained 1.82 seconds behind and finished her swim by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 12.92 seconds.
Third fastest qualification spot of the event was obtained by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who was only two strokes apart and qualified into the next round with an effort of 2 minutes and 13.20 seconds.
Similarly, Amit Ivri of Israel occupied fourth position of the discipline as she clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 14.69 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship will end on May 27 after the conclusion of all listed events whereas these finalists will swim against each other in the next round.
