Bendigo Stadium Victoria welcomes top potters in July: 2012 Australian Goldfields Open
After the successful completion of the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open snooker tournament in Victoria, the organisation committee at the Bendigo Stadium arena is ready again to welcome the top guns of snooker in July and launch the second episode of the
Aussie event, the 2012 Australian Goldfields Open.
The 2011 Australian Goldfields Open was one of the initiatives taken by World Snooker boss Barry Hearn in order to popularise the game of snooker across the globe. The tournament was indeed a marvellous success and received great appreciation not only from
Australian fans, but also from snooker lovers around the world.
England’s Stuart Bingham clinched his first ever major ranking title after he trounced the former World Snooker Champion, Wales’ Mark Williams by the score line of 9-8 in the final of 2011 Australian Goldfields Open. The Binginator is also excited about
the return of the event. The Ball-run said that he is thrilled of heading to the same venue in July.
Meanwhile, the Victorian Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Louise Asher reckons that staging international events like 2012 Australian Goldfields Open in Victoria highlights Victoria as a world-class venue for major events.
He spoke to the media and said, “The Australian Goldfields Open highlights the Victorian Coalition Government's commitment to bringing major events to regional Victoria, delivering tourism and economic benefits to the local area. I'm sure snooker fans from
all over Australia will relish the opportunity to see Mr Robertson take on the world's best again at the Australian Goldfields Open.”
Asher congratulated Neil Robertson on his impressive performance in the 2012 Masters event last month. The former World Snooker Champion defeated England’s Shaun Murphy by the score line of 10-6 in the final of the 2012 Masters in January.
Robertson, on the other hand, while speaking about the event said, “The atmosphere for last year's Australian Goldfields Open final was one of the best I have ever witnessed and I am really looking forward to the 2012 event. I would urge everyone to get
their tickets booked straight away because you can't beat watching snooker live.”
The top-16 potters of snooker will be seeded in the last-32 stage and they will be joined by 16 qualifiers and two Australian Wild Card entrants to launch the proceedings of the event. The 2012 Australian Goldfields Open will be staged at the Bendigo Stadium
from July 9-15.
