Bene Lad to stamp the second chance at Ayr in the Purvis Marquees Racing Excellence “Hands And Heels” Finale Handicap Hurdle (Conditionals/Amateurs)
Ayr will become home for the Class 3 Purvis Marquees Racing Excellence “Hands And Heels” Finale Handicap Hurdle (Conditionals/Amateurs) over two miles and four furlongs on Saturday, 21st April. Competing for the £5,848 purse are fourteen four-year and older thoroughbreds.
The only entry to have raced and won recently at Ayr is Bene Lad, Beneficial’s ten-year-old bay gelding out of mare, Sandwell Old Rose. He has been active twice during the new season with the seasonal debut resulting in a victory and the next transforming into a second score.
The ten-year-old cracked into the new season on 2nd January in the Bet Mobile At Victorchandler.Com Handicap Chase at Ayr over two miles and four furlongs. The 2/1 favourite of the race won while riding with Richie McGrath and the dominated the runner up, Et Maintenant, by five lengths.
The runner up was accompanied by Campbell Gillies and was soon followed by Deuteronomy.
The trainer, Jim Goldie, could not have wished for a better start for his bay gelding. Bene Lad’s second and till yet the last outing of the season was at Kelso in the Stark Main – UK’s Best Accountancy Practice 2011 Handicap Chase over two miles and a furlong on 24th March.
Bene Lad got intimidated by Mr Syntax who yanked off the victory by taking charge of the final three and a half lengths while ridden by Brian Harding. Bene Lad took up the runner up’s slot with jockey Timmy Murphy.
Coming at terms with the third position was Shadrack while the 2/1 favourite of the race, Freddie Brown, ended fourth on the track of seven contestants.
Bene Lad had raced at Ayr twice during the previous season rather started off with the season by racing at Ayr.
He won the Best Odds Guaranteed At Victor Chandler Handicap Hurdle at Ayr over two miles and four furlongs on 3rd January, 2011. Back then too, Bene Lad was paired up with Richie McGrath and the two led the 3/1 favourite runner up of the race, Sambelucky, by 1 ¼ lengths.
Stationing right behind the runner up was Classic Henri.
However, the second time when the ten-year-old raced at Ayr, the outcome was not really satisfactory with a ninth position on the field of thirteen.
