  1. depends on what your status is ... if you're an EU national you will have the same rights as a UK national ... if you're coming on a work permit you will not have "recourse to public funds" which means you're not entitled to any state benefits and have to be self-sufficient until you become a naturalised citizen ... if you come as a refugee you will have some very very basic help with food until such time as your application for asylum is decided, if it's declined you have to leave the country, if it's accepted you are given "indefinite leave to remain" at which point you can claim the same benefits as a UK national

if you think you come within the class of people who are entitled to claim benefits, there are some websites offering to calculate what benefits and how much you could claim ... try http://www.entitledto.co.uk/

  2. If you're from outwith the UK, you will have to work for two years to qualify for any benefits.

  3. I've lived here all my life and don't get any benefits whatsoever.

  4. You could speak to the Social in Ireland about child benefit & how to claim it in the UK.

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/catego...

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Mone...

This is some information on tax credits:

    http://www.taxcredits.inlandrevenue.gov....

If you have an address in the UK, you could try speaking to what will be your local Council to find out what you may be entitled to in terms of childcare & nursery placements - if that's relevant.
