Benefits of Canadian Railways of 1900s?

What were the benefits of making railways in canada, probably econmicly. The railways are ( cpr, Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, Canadian National)

It was a condidtion of BC joining Canada.  And it probably kept the Americans from invading because troops could be moved in quickly.  It helped Ontario and Quebec manufactures market their goods, but at the same time made stuff more exspencive in the West because tarrifs were imposed on American made goods.

The transcontinental railway was instrumental in populating the vast western lands of Canada, providing supplies and commerce to new settlers. Many of western Canada's great cities and towns grew up around Canadian Pacific Railway stations.
