  1. I just read the answer and the information is wrong. If a child is born it will automatically does not become british citizen. Rather the embessy if you are from India then you need to go to Indian embessy and the place and location of birth will be put in the Passport.

You have been living here in UK for one year. It depends on what kind of visa you come here for. If you have come here on a Doctor profession visa it may take 10 years and and any other visa 5, 7, 8 respectively.

You will then need to write a test called life in UK and need to pass that test which was rightly said as the step towards being a british citizenship. Once you pass this then you need to submit your passport to the embessy who inturn will stamp a new visa as indefinite leave to remain.

By doing this the benefits are

You need not write all these nonsese exams which their citizens themselves don't know.

You are not under the fear what's going to happen next because the rules keep chainging now and then as if they are passing the football.

You save on embessy money for stamping visa which is your asset.

You can now claim for public funds since earlier you were not eligible to.

You get loans, mortgage etc which they have stopped now for non permanent residents since last month.

Eventually you can be a british citizen.

  2. If the conservatives pull out of the EU, they can't throw you out of UK.

Laws change here every year and it is the safest way to secure your position as they are getting stricter every year.

Edit: Raj you did not read the question, She comes from the EU so she does not require a visa to live here and that is why she is asking what the benefits are.

  3. Indefinate Leave to Remain (see second link if you want to apply)? The main advantage is that it is a step on the way to British citizenship. Also if you give birth in the UK the child will automatically be British. Due to you being a citizen of an EEA country I don't see much difference in benefits due to the treaties in place for people such as yourself (see first link).
