Benetton Treviso register 8th win in Magners League over Warriors
Benetton Treviso hosted the Glasgow Warriors Stadio Comunale di Monigo on Saturday 16th April, 2011.
Benetton have to work hard to edge head of the visitors on the Magners League table. Benetton Treviso defeated Glasgow Warriors 19 – 16 to secure their eighth win in the season. Benetton Treviso is now at the 10th position and 5 points behind the Edinburgh
and Connacht who are 8th and 9th position respectively.
Both teams started the match carefully however; Benetton Treviso made an early change as their Scrum Half Fabio Semenzato left the field during the second minute of the game. Simon Picone replaced Fabio Semenzato at Scrum Half. Both teams were fighting for
the ball possession and to gain territory. Both teams visited each other halves but failed to score any points.
The Benetton Treviso makes a move towards the Glasgow Warriors during the 9thminute of the game, which earn them a penalty. Benetton Treviso Fly Half Willem De Waal successfully kicked the penalty to put the first point in the match on board during the 10th minute
of the game. Five minutes later, Glasgow Warriors levelled the score as their Fly Half Ruaridh Jackson scored on the penalty.
Both teams again went through the non-scoring phase before Jackson scored his second penalty of the game to take the scorecard reading 3 – 6 in favour of Warriors. After the Jackson’s second penalty of the game in the 27th minute, Glasgow Warriors maintained
their lead during until the 40th minute of the game. Benetton Treviso levelled the score during last minute penalty by their Fly Half Willem De Waal, with scorecard reading 6 – 6 at the end of the first half.
Both teams started the second half with intensity and during the first 10 minutes of the second half fourteen points were scored. Glasgow suffered a blow early in second half as their Prop Ryan Grant was shown yellow card during the 41st minute
of the game.
Treviso capitalised on the opportunity and scored this first try of the game during the 43rd minute. Treviso’s Willem De Waal gets the ball from the lineout and sent it to their Flank Robert Barbieri who penetrated through the Glasgow’s defence to score
the first try of the game.
De Waal followed by the conversion to give Treviso 7 points lead.  Glasgow still a man down denied any further scoring opportunity to Treviso.
However, they were able to win a penalty, which was missed by their Fly Half Jackson and scored a try. Glasgow scored their try during the 49th minute of the game through their Captain and Centre Graeme Morrison. This was followed by the Jackson try to again
level the score. Both teams scored penalties during the 53rd and 56th minutes respectively leaving the score levels again.
Treviso were able to again take the lead courtesy of Willem De Waal’s 63rdminute drop goal to take the scorecard reading 19-16 . The score remain the same until the end of the game giving Treviso their 8th win in the Magners League. De Waal was the top scorer
of the match with 14 points.
