Benfica's Joan Capdevila and Sporting Lisbon's http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Diego-Capel-c11100 both hoping for success next season
The Red’s new signing Joan Capdevila looking to add more winners’ medals to his tally next season
Veteran defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joan-Capdevila-c18631, who is in the twilight of his career, turned some heads this summer when he moved to Portuguese giants, Benfica.
The Spanish International was plying his trade with Villarreal in La Liga and was set to end his career at the helm. In a turn of events, however, the full-back embarked on a new journey in Liga Sagres and put pen-to-paper on a two year-deal at Estadio da
Luz.
Capdevila was seen as an ideal short-term replacement for Fabio Coentrao by the Eagles and they intended him to fill the berth at left-back until they could properly groom fellow new acquisition, Emerson.
33-year-old Capdevila has won football’s greatest prize, the FIFA World Cup, in addition to the European championships in 2008. Although he has bulging haul of winners’ medals, the former Espanyol man is still determined to add to his already impressive
tally.
"I am very happy; I was very well received by colleagues.”
“I'm trying to integrate myself slowly but hopefully it will be a very good and successful season for Benfica that will give much joy to the fans in the end,” he was quoted as saying.
Although he was quite enthusiastic about playing for Benfica, Capdevila will have to wait until his registration is complete to officially make his debut for the Lisbon-based side.
Sporting Lisbon is building a team to win the Championship, says Diego Capel
The former Sevilla winger completed a €3.5 million switch to Jose Alvalade earlier this summer window and is eager to win the league with his new club next season.
Diego Capel was wanted by Real Madrid at one time but the move did not go through although he still shined in La Liga when given a run in a string of games. The wide midfielder has also gained two caps for the Spanish national team and remains in contention
for game time whenever any first team forward gets injured.
After signing for the Lions, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 man showed his eagerness to address that because Sporting signed numerous new players, they would have to gel together and mould into a better team in the course of the season in order to win silverware.
“We are still growing. It is preferable that things do not go well now rather than later when we are playing official games.”
“We are looking for rhythm and form and are struggling to get good results but this is normal for the beginning.”
“Obviously we want to win the games in pre-season. But the championship is what matters.” said the attacker.
Both Capel and Capdevila have shown their desire to win the Portuguese Primeira Liga in the upcoming season but it remains to be seen whether either of the two succeed given that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 are also in contention for the title.
