Benfica's Rodrigo happy with debut – Portuguese Primeira Liga News
Benfica forward Rodrigo has claimed that he is quite glad to have finally made his debut for the club and said that he was looking forward to the hotly contested derby against FC Porto next week.
The striker arrived from Real Madrid’s ‘B’ team last year but was immediately loaned out to Bolton Wanderers to gain match experience.
Following an impressive stint at Reebok Stadium, it was expected that the Trotters would sign him on a permanent basis. However, they were ousted in their efforts to land the 20-year-old by Benfica.
Jorge Jesus, coach of the Lisbon outfit, claimed that the Spanish International would play a big role at Estadio da Luz this season and reiterated that he will not be sold despite the lucrative offers being made.
Included in the manager’s plan for the campaign, Rodrigo was finally able to make his debut for the Eagles in the weekend’s clash with Academica.
The match itself was a spectacular occasion with Benfica slamming four past the helpless visitors at Estadio da Luz.
Although unable to get on the score sheet himself, Rodrigo remained quite happy and said that he was ecstatic about bagging three points, something which took on a greater meaning as it propelled Jorge Jesus’s side to same points as the Dragons.

The front-man also said that he could hardly wait for the mouth-watering derby with FC Porto next week and hoped that his team would come out on top when the two Portuguese giants go head-to-head at Estadio do Dragao.
"We will have the biggest game of the League to date next week and hope that Benfica continue with this pace and this way of working,” the former Celta Vigo man was quoted as saying.
With a plethora of opportunities to come his way in the next few years, Rodrigo can establish himself as a top player if he can grab them with both hands.
