Benfica's injury crisis has left manager Jorge Jesus short of options at the back - Report
Portuguese giants Benfica are currently suffering from an injury crisis, which has sidelined several first team defenders and has gotten manager Jorge Jesus into a very difficult situation.
The Eagles are presently without Uruguayan wingback Maxi Pereira, while Portuguese International Ruben Amorim has also been restricted to training under supervision for the last couple of days.
Maxi Pereira got injured while on national duty and is reportedly out for the next game against Vitoria Guimaraes. The 27-year-old mainly plays as a right-back but is also capable of deputizing as a midfielder when called upon.
While currently doing conditioning work, Pereira is unlikely to be risked by trainer Jorge Jesus for the league encounter against Vitoria Guimaraes or the UEFA Champions League match against Manchester United.
In his absence, Ruben Amorim was expected to start at the back. However, the former Belenenses is suffering from problems of his own. Tests have revealed that Amorim has injured his upper left-leg and will be unable to take part in any footballing action
for some time.
With both Amorim and Pereira out for the upcoming fixtures, it looks like coach Jorge Jesus will have rely on Miguel Vitor to partner the likes of Luisao in defence.
22-year-old Vitor has shrugged off his injury concerns and has already proven that he is the man for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684, as he featured as a right defender for Benfica last season. In addition to that, he just returned from a loan spell in the English Championship
and now brings vital experience with him.
Jorge Jesus, in all likelihood, will go along with Vitor in place of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ruben-Amorim-c31829, while the rest of the pack will not be changed as they have performed admirably during the opening exchanges.
Players like Emerson have shown that they can play at the elite level, while Brazilian International and team skipper Luisao is coming back to his sublime best, a positive sign for the Lisbon outfit in light of the injury causalities they have received in
recent weeks.
