Benfica are the best team in the league, says Nolito – Primeira Liga News
Benfica’s Nolito has responded to the comments made by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 coach Vitor Pereira. The tactician claimed that his side are the best in the league but Nolito disagrees and reiterates that his team are the ones to beat.
The Reds have been the best side from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 in the season thus far. Not only have they avoided defeat since the beginning of the campaign, but are now also on the top of the table.
Jorge Jesus’ men swept yet another three points on the weekend at the expense of Pacos de Ferreira, and the 4-2 thrashing enabled them to secure 1st place in the Liga Sagres standings.
Having also grinded out a point at Estadio do Dragao, Benfica are a definite force to be reckoned with and will pose the greatest threat to the Portistas’ crown. Their summer spending has also added to the woes of their rivals, as the likes of Nolito and
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Axel-Witsel-c7029 have joined the Lisbon outfit.
Former Barcelona man, Nolito, enjoyed little game time at Camp Nou and the presence of game greats such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Villa-c10629 restricted the impression he made on the Catalans.
In search of a more regular role, the attacker has signed for Benfica and so far has been an absolute hit at the club. A first choice at the helm, Nolito has scored 7 goals in 8 appearances for the Eagles and looks set to continue his fine start to things
in Portugal.
Speaking to reporters about the club’s recent win over Pacos de Ferreira, the striker said that although he was glad to earn three points, there are still a lot of matches left to decide the fate of the championship.
"It's always nice to win and, even better, being in first place. That's one step forward, but there is still a lot of league matches left. It is far from over and we must continue to move forward little by little ",
Nolito also responded to a comment made by FC Porto manager, Vitor Pereira, and said that the trainer’s decision to label his side as the best club in the Primeira Liga was unjustified.
"By the end of the league, he shall know who the real champion is. For me, the best team is Benfica and we are going to prove it little by little. In the end we'll see,” Nolito was quoted as saying.
Although the Dragons are right behind Benfica in the standings, they have experienced a drop in form during the last couple of matches.
While they won 3-0 against Academica, their loss against Zenit St Petersburg in the UEFA Champions League means that their rivals are better than them, as they are yet to suffer a single defeat in the 2011/2012 campaign.
