Benfica close in on Lille defender Emerson – Portuguese Primeira Liga News
Benfica are reportedly close to signing Emerson from French Ligue 1 club, Lille. The Portuguese outfit has been searching for a successor for Fabio Coentrao and it appears that they have found their ideal man.
Emerson has plied his trade with Lille in the highest division of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899, facing quality opposition week-in, week-out. His price tag is also quite low compared to the inflated transfer fees being negotiated in Europe. The Eagles have reportedly enticed Lille
with a €2.5 million offer, which has apparently been agreed by the club and they are willing to part ways with their defensive stalwart.
Blessed with speed and Brazilian attacking flair, while not compromising on solidarity at the back, Emerson could be the perfect successor for Coentrao who has transferred to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid in a mouthwatering €30 million deal.
The former Malucelli man is not only disciplined on the pitch but is equally behaved off it. Known for not causing any unwanted problems, he is well suited for the Lisbon side and enjoys keeping a relatively low profile to spend quality time with his family
and girlfriend.
However the Reds are also rumoured to be chasing other targets, most notably http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristian-Ansaldi-c9499. However, Ansaldi is likely to remain in the Russian Premier League as Rubin Kazan are not prepared to let their star asset leave despite Benfica
tabling multiple proposals.
On the other hand, Sandro is believed to be on the verge of a move to Estadio da Luz but given his age, he represents a long-term investment and will not immediately plug the gaps in the squad.
Emerson is experienced enough to handle the pressure and rigours of playing every week without letting his performances suffer  and would probably be the first choice starter in the left-back position, if he ever to be signed. The 20-year-old Sandro would
then serve as his understudy to gain important tips and could learn a lot from his senior teammate.
But the Brazilian U-20 International would not be completely benched and could come in handy as a utility player for the Portuguese outfit by playing smaller Cup games, while Emerson could guard the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904 in the important fixtures.
