Benfica full-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Coentrao confident of his team’s chances of reaching the Europa League final
Benfica full-back Fabio Coentrao is delighted with his team’s 4-1 victory over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven in the first leg of the quarter-final of the Europa League at Estadio da Luz on 7 April, 2011.
A brace from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pablo-Aimar-c28938 helped the Eagles to strengthen their charge for a semi-final berth.
Coentrao played a major role in the win and assisted in Benfica’s second goal. The Portuguese is happy to take a three-goal cushion into the second leg and believes that his team can reach the final of the competition.
Coentrao said, “It was an important step towards the semi-finals. It was an excellent game. We had to bounce back like this after the Porto game on Sunday, because to have a crowd of more than 60,000 after a defeat like that is incredible.”
“Winning 4-1 in the end was very important, because when we were 3-0 up and they scored, we could have made things more complicated for ourselves. Victories like this are our way of thanking the fans. They're fantastic. They're with us in good moments and
bad,” he added.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 international added that his team should not get complacent after the first leg and must concentrate on the second leg. The 23-year-old added that anything is possible in football and he has seen many teams turning around a big deficit in the
past.
He added that his team has worked really hard but they need to think step by step. The left-back has full faith in his teammates that they can march into the semi-finals after winning the second leg.
The Portuguese reckons that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Javier-Saviola-c18090’s 94th minute goal could be really crucial in deciding the tie as a 4-1 result is much safer than 3-1. Coentrao also thanked the fans for their support and promised them that the team will repay their
faith in future games as well.
The second leg of the tie will be played at the Philips Stadion on 14 April, 2011.
