Benfica have decided to sign Nacho Monreal from Osasuna as they prepare for the next season without star wingback, Fabio Coentrao.
The Portuguese international had raised eyebrows in Europe’s Elite with glittering displays at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757, and Real Madrid are now reported to be the frontrunners in the race to land his signature. The former Rio Ave player has
himself fuelled transfer speculation and a summer transfer looks very likely in the upcoming weeks.
"Madrid has the best players in the world and I have many http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Friends-football-club-c39381 there. Nothing has been done but I hope the signing will go ahead. Benfica understand my decision and I intend to make it a good deal for them. I will be grateful to them all my life.” Coentrao
said last week.
The Lisbon outfit are now preparing a possible bid for Osasuna ace Nacho Monreal, who has the talent and ability to fill the boots of the Selecao International.
Monreal started his career in the Youth ranks of the Little Red Ones and broke into the first team in 2006. His performances earned him a berth in Spain’s U-21 Side in 2009 that did not go beyond the group stages at the European Championships. However he
started all the matches in the prestigious U-21 Tournament and this resulted in senior caps against Macedonia and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841.
The Spanish defender could prove to be a fruitful signing for the Eagles who were eclipsed by the trophy haul of Porto this season. With Benfica looking to return to former glory, Monreal would provide solidarity at the back. However, the Reds must match
Osasuna’s €12 million valuation of the 25-year-old. With Coentraos sale likely to be in the region of €22 million, Monreals chances of playing at the Estadio de Luz next season remain high, but the Portuguese Club would prefer him in the range of €7m.
Monreal is a regular attraction in the Pamplona side, and his 31 appearances last season indicate his importance to the side. However the Spanish outfit would be willing to sell if Benfica can manage to equal the buyout clause for the player.
