Benfica lose out on Rubin Kazan’s Cristian Ansaldi – report
Lisbon giants, Benfica, have been ruled out with a move for Cristian Ansaldi, as Rubin Kazan have refused to sell their prized asset. The player has also commented on the situation and cited the Reds’ transfer fee as the reason why his employers did not
agree to the much talked about switch.
Benfica’s woes in the left-back position have been one of the only problems the Portuguese club have encountered so far in the season. Riding high on top of the Primeira Liga table as well as qualifying for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League,
there is genuine reason for optimism at Estadio da Luz.
However the team have been marred by the lack of options at the wingback role, which hasn’t found a worthy successor since the departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Coentrao to Real Madrid.
During his time with the Eagles, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emerson-c12442 is the only one who has shown that bit of quality but that
too on an inconsistent basis.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joan-Capdevila-c18631, the experience veteran was acquired from Villarreal to quell the loss of Coentrao, but the Spaniard has failed miserably to live up to the expectations surrounding him.
The 33-year-old is now touted to be making his way out of the Stadium of Light and is likely to be sold during the winter transfer window. In order to bolster the backline and add some tenacity in defence, Benfica have been targeting a host of talented full-backs,
with Cristian Ansaldi being one of their preferred choices.
Ansaldi, 25, has been plying his trade with Russian side, Rubin Kazan, for almost four years now and has gathered valuable Champions League experience under his belt as well. Jorge Jesus was reportedly on his trail during the summer but a move failed to
materialize then.
While it was expected that an agreement might be reached this time around, Rubin Kazan have declined the transfer citing that Benfica’s bid was far below their evaluation and insisted that their prized asset would not leave regardless of how much the potential
suitors were willing to cough up.
"Ansaldi will not be sold for three, five or ten million. He is one of our best players and the team needs him. So why should we sell him in mid-season?” said club president, Dmitry Samarenkin.
The player himself also commented on the situation and said that financial reasons were indeed why the talks broke down.
"From what my representatives have told me, Benfica cannot offer me nor Rubin Kazan a proper financial compensation," the former Newell Old Boys man was quoted as saying.
With a move for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jorge-Torres-Nilo-c19223, rumoured to be their top priority.
