Bengal v Gujarat - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Ranjitsinhji-c71870 Trophy - Group A – Day 3 – Live Score and Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gujarat-c787 260 & 18/4 (9.0 ov) v Bengal 526/7d - Gujarat trail by 248 runs with 6 wickets remaining
At stumps on the third day of the ongoing Ranji Trophy - Group A match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bengal-c771 and Gujarat, the latter trail by 248 with six wickets in hand at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The match seemingly is heading towards a draw unless Bengal give a brilliant bowling performance backed by some fast batting to secure a difficult win.
After restricting Gujarat on a first innings tally of 260, Bengal resumed their first innings from an overnight score of 220 for four.
By this time Bengal seemed in trouble, and all Gujarat required were a few more wickets to exert pressure on their opponents.
With MK Tiwary still standing on 102, Bengal were hoping to post a big total by the end of their innings.
Tiwary alongside AP Majumdar was extremely effective as the duo prevented the fielding side from gaining any momentum in the morning.
The fielders were kept on their toes as the bowlers kept getting remorselessly smacked all over the place.
This partnership took away Gujarat’s advantage and steered the team towards a dominating position.
Finally after piling a massive score of 343, Bengal saw their first batsman of the day go down when Majumdar was run out for 68.
However, this was not the end for Bengal as the arrival of LR Shukla prevented the expected decrease in the scoring rate.
The partnership between MK Tiwary and Shukla launched another blatant batting offensive, taking the score to 419 before Tiwary faltered after hammering a stupendous knock of 191.
As he walked under the standing ovation of the crowd, he knew that he had put his team in a safe position.
Shukla, was still not done as he kept punishing the bowlers and stayed unbeaten on an impressive 113-run knock, with his team declaring the innings on 526 for seven.
Gujarat’s RB Kalaria was the most successful bowler with three wickets to his hand.
They had a terrible start to their second innings where they lost four quick wickets with just 18 on the board as the day ended.
