Gujarat 260/272 v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bengal-c771 526 - Match drawn
Bengal let a fantastic opportunity of winning their Ranji Trophy - Group A match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gujarat-c787 on Tuesday slip away when they failed to bowl-out their opposition after having smashed a staggering total of 526 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Bengal were expected to win after they dismissed their opponents on a score of 260 in the first innings.
They backed their stupendous performance by bowling-out four Gujarat batsmen for 18 at stumps on the third day of play in the second innings.
Gujarat were certainly under tremendous pressure and knew that they would have to bat their best on the final day in order to avoid an imminent defeat.
A lot was depending on overnight batsmen, Y http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Venugopal-Rao-c2752 and RB Kalaria to halt the bowlers from making inroads in the morning.
However, they had the worst run of bad luck when they lost Rao on the first delivery of the day. The batsman walked back to the pavilion without adding a run to his overnight score of two.
A perfect start like this gave Bengal the confidence needed to twist Gujarat’s arm a bit more and secure a well deserved victory.
Kalaria was then joined by MC Juneja, as the batsmen struggled to keep the bowlers at bay. However, they held their ground long enough to put 56 runs on the board before Kalaria’s departure for 23.
With not many runs on the board, the batting side were seeking a big partnership in the middle.
Juneja and RH Bhatt then pulled off the impossible by forging a match winning partnership that left Bengal completely flabbergasted.
The bowlers tried their very best to dismantle the potentially dangerous partnership but their efforts were wasted as the batsmen refused to make any mistakes.
Dinda then held on to the ball as he caught and bowled Juneja for 32 to end the intimidating partnership with 103 runs on the board.
However, more worries were on their way as RV Dhurv crafted another resilient partnership alongside Bhatt to take the score to 252 that saved the match for Gujarat. The batsman was removed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shami-Ahmed-c2496 after hammering 83, while Bhatt stayed unbeaten on a brilliant 102 at stumps.
