What had started as a great day for Railways was now ending badly for them, as they needed to halt the bowling resurgence by forging a solid partnership in the middle.
Sarkar then struck for the second time in the match when he nabbed NS Bhille, who had scored 14 runs, before finding his way back to the pavilion. The demise of the top-order batsman was a major blow for his side, leaving the tail on the mercy of the bowlers.
With 125 runs on the board, wicketkeeper/batsman M Rawat was clean-bowled by Paul after hitting 11 runs off 23 deliveries.
M Kartik and KV Sharma then forged the last stand as they knew there wasn’t anyone left after them to give the opposition any trouble.
The two batsmen, while seeing off intimidating deliveries, kept the scoreboard ticking, as they managed to amass 193 runs on the board.
The partnership, however, met its end on the wicket of KV Sharma, who perished with 32 runs to his name.
Later, M Kartik was the last wicket of the day as he was removed by Sarkar after scoring 48 runs, leaving his team on 214.
