With a day left for Bengal to bat, they have a mighty chance of winning this four-day competition against Railways, as they require 359 runs with nine wickets remaining in their second innings at Jadavpur University Complex, Kolkata.
For Railways, this was a high scoring contest where their batsmen smashed their opposition first by piling 214 runs in the first innings, followed by a nifty 314 in their second innings to give Bengal a target of 372 to win.
On the other hand, Bengal have been let down by their batsmen, who failed to show any colour in the first innings, getting bowled-out for 157. However, if they want to win tomorrow, they need to raise their game.
After Railways ended the second day of play with 20 runs on the board without any loss, they resumed their innings on Monday with the opening pair of SS Shukla and AG Paunikar taking the score to 74, before their rivals made inroads on the dismissal of Shukla, who perished after scoring 39 runs.
However, before Bengal could gloat any further, they were ripped apart by AG Paunikar and NS Bhille, who forged a challenging second-wicket partnership, taking the score to 130, before the demise of Bhille for 26. The next over, then saw the departure of AG Paunikar after he had hammered 54 runs with 130 runs still on the board.
Six runs later, skipper SB Bangar was sent back by Jhunjhunwala after hitting only six runs off his bat.
The departure of the captain and the opener did not bring any calm in the scoring rate as P Awasthi and M Rawat led the side towards 173 runs, before it was time for Awasthi to find his way back to the pavilion after he had scored 19 runs.
With Rawat unbeaten on a well tamed knock of 75, the batting side declared their innings with a massive score on the board.
Chasing a tough target, Bengal ended the day with 13 runs on the board for the loss of one wicket.
