Benifts of adding construction and demolishion debris to solid waste landfills?

The Ohio House has decided to pass laws and regulations that will eventually lead to demolishion and Construction Debris being thrown into solid waste landfills. What are the benifits of doing this? What are some potenial problems.

  1. All of the above are valid points. The one about money is the simplest and most true answer.

    However, even though your question doesn't concern this, there is a growing school of thought on construction that could limit construction debris to a minimum.

    Sustainable design is the best answer we have so far. Sustainable design incorporates three core ideologies.

    1. Use of environmentally friendly, renewable resources, that use as little energy to produce as possible.

    2. A building design that minimizes environmental impact.

    3. Selection of building materials that can be recycled to minimize construction debris/waste.


  2. I'm not sure what the benefits are except to save somebody a buck.

    They could possibly dump asbestos and anything that has lead based and PCB based paint in there.

  3. Actually, the estimated amount of solid waste in landfills is approx. 50% construction related.  Construction waste is the single worst landfill material.

    The problem is a deep problem, because we literally can't stop building and remodeling, it's a huge industry.

    There are no benefits to putting construction waste in solid waste landfills, however, the Ohio House has realized there is really no other current answer.
