Chelsea’s manager, Rafa Benitez has gone on to question his side and their hunger to go on and win trophies, as he feels that the players just aren’t displaying the want to win big.
The Blues went on to win the Champions League last season, but this time around the team seems to be on the brink of being knocked out of the contest in the group stages of the game.
The team are set to take on Nordsjaelland in their last group game, and they can’t afford to pick up any result apart from a win.
However, in order for them to make it to the next round of the competition, the team also needs Juventus to lose their game, because even a draw for the Italians would result in Chelsea being knocked out of the competition.
Benitez, when talking about the Blues and their ambition to win big, is reported to have said: "At a top side, who have already won trophies, but you're missing one, that is the ambition"
"http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 won the Champions League, a massive achievement, but now they've done that it changes the perspective a bit for the next season. It changes the hunger of the players, and the staff. If you want to stay at the maximum level for a while you have to
be competitive. It's part of our http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 to push them and try and keep the competition.”
However, the Blues boss went on to insist that he sees the players proving their commitment on the pitch week in and week out, but feels that despite them putting in all this effort, there is something that is a little off.
The manager is certain that the players still have the desire to win, but something seems to be a little off for the team.
"The normal situation is like this in any club. I can talk about the things I can see: every training session, the commitment is there. I can't say they don't want to win, because they won it. I think it's the opposite."
Nonetheless, Benitez has a lot of his work cut out for him, since he could end up seeing Chelsea get knocked out of the Champions League, even if they win their game.
As a result, it is now a wait to see just where the Blues go from here.
