Benjamin Becker devastates Pierre-Hugues Herbert to reach quarters – Orange Open Guadeloupe 2012 Ch
German star, Benjamin Becker, flashed past the French qualifier, Pierre-Hugues Herbert, with a bagel at the Orange Open Guadeloupe 2012 on Thursday night. He penned down a 6-0, 6-2 score line against the French to cruise into the final eight at this ATP
(Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event taking place in Le Gosier, Guadeloupe.
Becker swiftly pocketed entire serves and broke the French’s serve five times to advance into the quarter-finals at this hard court event. He clobbered a better first serve share of 56 per cent in contrast with the French’s 50 per cent and impressively marked
22 out of 27 points on it.
The higher ranked, Becker, blasted into the Stade Lambert Lamby and went on a six-game killing spree. He smoothly slid his entire serves and converted half of the six break opportunities to pull out the opener with a bagel.
Becker maintained his intensity in the following set and continued plucking his serves after defending the only breakpoint he faced. He capitalised on two out of six break chances to seal the set by winning six games to two.
Summing up the German’s performance in this one hour and four-minute encounter, Becker smashed four vicious aces and ruled throughout the match. In the end, he finished the match with 63 points as opposed to Herbert’s 37 points.
Up next for Becker is the fourth seed, Edouard Roger-Vasselin, who tumbled over the British qualifier, Daniel Evans, in straight sets in 68 minutes. The French seed broke his opponent’s serve three times and swiped in his entire serves, consequently registering
a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Becker’s compatriot, Mischa Zverev, also earned the spotlight later that day. He stunned the third seeded American, James Blake, in straight sets to advance in this event.
The 24-year-old broke Blake’s serve twice in the opening set and cashed in the lone break chance in the following set, ultimately sealing the deal with a 6-3, 6-3 score line in 69 minutes. He produced a higher first serve share of 60 per cent as opposed
to Blake’s 45 per cent and clinched 14 out of 18 points on it.
