Benjamin Becker dumps Ruben Bemelmans in the quarter-finals – Ortisei Challenger 2012 CH
German veteran, Benjamin Becker, rallies past in the semi-finals of the Sparkasse ATP Challenger 2012 held at the carpet courts of Ortisei, Italy. He gave his Belgian professional, Ruben Bemelmans, a remarkable three setter defeat
6-3, 2-6, 6-3 victory on the eve of Friday in approximately one hour and 34 minutes.
Second seeded Becker began the initial set with a strong resolve to dominate and clinched his rival’s serve in the third game. He sustained his superior game plan manifesting his experience and did not give his challenger a single
chance to dominate. Despite of his winning edge, he did not lose his head and continued to improve. He served extremely well and making it a tough deal for the other contestant. Ultimately, he jumped forward and concluded the opener with a 6-3 score line.
Ranked 114th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Bemelmans stormed forward to avenge his former loss. The two contenders peacefully progressed and the score line evened out to 2-all in the fourth game.
However, the winning table completely reversed and achieved his preset lead in the fifth game, marking a 3-2 score line. This completely dissolved his opponent’s confidence and notched up to steal the show with a 6-2 lead.
In the decider, the two rivals held their serves through the initial part but the 31-year-old German cashed on the serve of the other player and marked 4-2 lead. He held his composure and dusted away all his challenger’s attempts
to prevail. The German challenger preserved his buoyancy and terminated the final set with a 6-3 win.
The eighth seeded, Bemelmans, attained 62 percent initial serve precision with 13 of 16 first and four of 10 second delivery points. The German senior secured 54 percent initial serve with 11 of 14 first and nine of 12 second serve
points in retaliation. He lost the lead because he was able to capitalize on a single serve break opportunity than the six bestowed onto him.
The second seeded German competitor will contest against the Italian professional, Matteo Viola. Previously, he gave Karol Beck a straight sets defeat.
