Benjamin Bittern looking for a surprise victory in Landowners Novices´ Hurdle
Jason Maguire will be looking to guide Benjamin Bittern to the top of the table in the Landowners Novices´ Hurdle at Bangor-on-dee in England on Wednesday, November 14, 2012. The pair was unsuccessful last time around, but will look to make amends in today’s
class-4 contest, which is scheduled to kick off at 15:30 GMT.
In his most recent outing, Benjamin Bittern was given pretty decent odds by the bookies and he was expected to fight for the top-three positions. Things did not work out well in his favour though, as he lacked the stamina to challenge the rest. He had to
settle for seventh place in the end, which was disappointing for his team.
However, the five-year-old gelding has got another chance of proving his mettle under Maguire. A victory will earn him a cash prize of £2,534 in the end, but he will have to fight extremely hard in order to achieve glory.
His stamina will once again be put to a test, as the overall distance to cover for him will be 2 miles and 1 furlong. He struggled because of a rain affected ground last time around and things could end up being the same today.
However, the weather has not been too bad at Bangor-on-dee, which is a positive sign for all of the participants. The going has been described as good to soft and it could improve with the passage of time.
The punters will opt to place more bets in favour of Drum Valley, as he has got the ability to do well over hurdles. He is a decent runner and knows how to handle pressure. Despite that, he will have to fight his way to the top, as the competition will not
be an easy one for him.
The four-year-old gelding has participated in just one race over hurdles until now and managed to do a decent job in it. He was not rated as the favourite to succeed back then, but proved to be highly competitive. He ended up as a runner up and would be
hoping for an improved run this time around.
Leighton Aspell will be the one partnering the Oliver Sherwood’s trainee in the race today.
