Benjamin Chaddock and Rhae-Christie Shaw win 2011 Canadian Road Championships Elite Men-Women
Exergy team’s Benjamin Chaddock showed his tremendous performance in the Elite Men Canadian Road Championships in Toronto.
Benjamin Chaddock took a total of 10 points, ahead of David Veilleux of the Europcar team. David was in the second spot with 6 points and Pierrick Naud (Rocky Mountain Desjardins Vale) was in the third position with 4 points.
After finishing the race, Veilleux told the media, "I knew that I was close to Derrick [St-John], but I wasn't sure how close I was, Even though this is not the usual type of race that I do in Europe, I wanted to finish these championships with a strong performance."
Derrick St.John of Ride with Rendall was in good form, but he failed to gain a lead and took the fourth spot with 2 points.
In the first sprint of the stage, a group of four cyclists, Will Routley (Team Spidertech Powered By C10), Benjamin Chaddock (Team Exergy), David Veilleux (Team Europcar) and Ed Veal (Jet Fuel Coffee/La Bicicletta), made their first breakaway.
Will Routley was in good form and managed to build his lead so he took the first sprint. However, Zachary Bell attacked with the three riders, Bradley Clifford, Derrick St.John and David Veilleux. All of them worked together and build an advantage of few seconds over the peloton. Bell took the seconds sprint and Derrick St.John took the third sprint.
After few kilometres, Derrick tried his best to take a lead in the fourth sprint, but he failed and Benjamin Chaddock took the lead with 5 points. John again maintained his speed and grabbed the first place in fifth sprint of the stage.
In the last three sprints, Zachery Garland increased his pace and build a lead of three seconds over the peloton. Veilleux took the second last sprint and Zachery Garland won the last sprint.  
Veilleux took overall lead and made hard move with 22 points and John was in second spot with one point down to David.
In the women category, Rhae-Christie Shaw of Independent team took the Elite Women Canadian Road Championships. Shaw took the overall 11 points ahead of Lex Albrecht of (Juvéderm-Specialized).
Leah Kirchmann of Manitoba was in the third spot and Joelle Numainville (Tibco-To The Top) grabbed the fourth position.
A group of four cyclists formed early in the race, which include Leah Kirchmann (Team Manitoba), Joelle Numainville (Tibco-To The Top), Joanie Caron (Juvederm-Specialized) and Karlee Gendron (Team Manitoba).
Leah Kirchmann was in good form and managed to gain a lead in the first and second sprint of the stage. After few kilometres, Joelle Numainville attacked and took the third sprint.
However, Leah Kirchmann again maintained her pace and grabbed 5 points ahead of Joanie Caron.
Kirchmann took the overall points ahead of Numainville and Rhae-Christie Shaw. Lead told the media, "I just decided that it was best to contest as many sprints as I could, Joelle [Numainville] is a strong sprinter, but this race favours consistency through the race."
