Benjamin Mitchell outmuscled Dennis Zivkovic in the first round – Toyota Challenger 2012 CH
Ranked 273rd in the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Rankings, Benjamin Mitchell, gave a straight sets defeat to the American rival, Dennis Zivkovic, in the round one of the 2012 Dunlop World Challenge
Tennis Tournament on Monday. The Aussie professional consolidated his win 6-1, 6-2 in nearly one hour and 46 minutes on the carpet courts of Toyota, Japan.
The 19-year-old commenced the match at a very powerful note and preserved his serve without facing any real challenge. He unveiled his true colours and cashed on his challenger’s serve in the fourth game, in order to draw the first
blood. Zivkovic was unable to secure even a single game afterwards and his opponent skilfully pulled out of the opener with a bread stick.
The American senior had 72 percent initial serve precision with eight of 13 first serve but just one of five second delivery points. He lost the lead, as he was unable to snatch even a single serve break, whereas his opponent attained
two from four. On the other hand, Mitchell maintained an average initial serve of 60 percent with 11 of 12 first and five of eight second serve points.
In the second set, 25-year-old Zivkovic displayed a sloppy beginning and eventually had to pay a heavy price for it. None of the players was able to upload their serve in the opening four games of the set but the Aussie professional
attained his required lead in the fifth game. From that point, the American completely crumbled his hopes to succeed. Mitchell smoothly advanced with his high-paced serves and his opponent was unable to withstand the mounting pressure. He beautifully capitalized
on his challenger’s serve in the seventh game and concluded the set with a 6-2 score line to bag the victory.
Both the players attained exactly same first serve precision of 71 percent but the world number 303, Zivkovic, merely converted nine of 20 first and just three of eight second serve points. The Aussie qualifier snatched away 13
of 17 first and two of seven second serve points, with three of four serve breaks.
