Benjamin Treffers achieves Men’s 50m backstroke gold – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Benjamin Treffers of Burley Griffin achieved gold medal of the Men’s 50m backstroke on last day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Thursday, March 22.
The 20-year-old Treffers demonstrated his phenomenal efforts in the single lap backstroke event and faced no difficulty in claiming gold medal of the discipline.
With his invincible efforts, he stayed almost half a body length ahead of his strongest challenger, Daniel Arnamnart of SOPAC and seized gold medal of the discipline by clocking an effort of 25.19 seconds. He was followed by 22-year-old Arnamnart, who stayed
0.22 seconds behind and clinched silver medal of the swim by producing a time of 25.41 seconds.
The third spot of the backstroke discipline was occupied by Max Ackermann of Chandler, who stayed 0.41 seconds slower from his former finisher and hit the finishing end with the timing of 25.82 seconds.
The 19-year-old Ackermann was trailed by Andrew Gillespie of Acacia Bayside, who was only 0.09 seconds away from surpassing the bronze medallist and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer with the timing of 25.91 seconds.
Gillespie stayed in a lead of just 0.10 seconds over Joshua Beaver of Tigersharks, who hit the finishing wall as fifth fastest swimmer by posting a time of 26.01 seconds. Beaver remained 0.18 seconds ahead of Bob Jovanovich of Arena, who submitted an effort
of 26.19 seconds for sixth position.
Daniel Blackborow of Melbourne stayed 0.07 seconds slower from his former swimmer and ended seventh with the timing of 26.26 seconds. He was followed by Matson Lawson of Tigersharks, who remained marginally behind his former finisher and ended eighth in
the shortest backstroke discipline.
The 19-year-old Lawson remained just 0.12 seconds away from his forgoing finisher and completed his race in a time of 26.38 seconds for eighth position of the discipline.
In addition, the session ended after the conclusion of all swimming events in Men and Women’s corner while Treffers aroused expectations of his fans by saying that he will try to achieve the same at the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
