Bennet Cantu, Fenerbahce Ulker and SLUC Nancy win – Euroleague Group A 4th week Review – Part 2
Fenerbahce Ulker 73 - Bizkaia Bilbao Basket 70
Bojan Bogdanovic led Fenerbahce Ulker with a game-high 19 points and four rebounds in nearly 22 minutes of action. Curtis Jerrells chipped in with 15 points and three steals while James Gist ended with 10 points, five rebounds
and two steals in Ulker’s third straight victory.
Marko Banic led Bizkaia Bilbao Basket with 17 points on 7 for 10 shooting from two-point range and also grabbed five rebounds. Kostas Vasiliadis had 15 points, hitting 3 for 8 from downtown and a perfect 6 for 6 from free throw
line, for Bilbao Basket, who have lost their third straight game of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague regular season.
Bogdanovic racked up nine points late in the first quarter as Fenerbahce held a 26-21 lead after the first 10 minutes of the game. Defence was the name of the game for Bilbao Basket in the second period as they limited the Fenerbahce
to just six points in the quarter and went ahead by four, 36-32, at halftime. In spite of the Fenerbahce’s continuing efforts to stop the bleeding in the third quarter, Bilbao Basket maintained a five-point lead, 58-53.
In the fourth quarter, Bilbao played with good rhythm and raced onto a 67-59 lead with 5:12 remaining.
Fenerbahce however turned it on at that point. They held Bizkaia scoreless for more than five minutes and went ahead by 71-67. Kostas Vasiliadis hit a three-pointer to make it a one-point contest but Omer Onan made two free throws
to seal the victory.
SLUC Nancy 90 - Caja Laboral 85
SLUC Nancy cruised past Caja Laboral 90-85 on November 10, 2011 at the Palais Des Sports Jean Weille for their second straight victory of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Group A. It was season’s first defeat for Caja that snapped
their three-game winning streak.
Akin Akingbala headed Nancy with a game-high 26 points on an 11 for 16 shooting from two-point range and grabbed seven rebounds. Nicolas Batum also played an effective game with 21 points, shooting 7 for 8 from free throw line,
nine rebounds and four assists. Pape Philippe Amagou and Adrien Moerman came off the bench with 16 and 13 points, respectively.
Mirza Teletovic led Laboral with 24 points on 5 for 12 shooting from downtown and grabbed a game-best 13 rebounds in the victory. Fernando San Emeterio had 19 points, seven rebounds and six assist while Kevin Seraphin posted 12
points and grabbed five rebounds for Laboral, who faced SLUC for the first time since 1997.
Both teams started with good pace and close on the scoreboard, tying at 20-10 before Nancy punctuated eight unanswered points in the last minute of the first quarter for a 28-20 lead into the second.
Caja began to show their efficiency in the second quarter and limited SLUC to just 21 points, cutting their margin to just two, 49-47, at the break.
Nancy started to find their offense in the third quarter and outscored Laboral 21-17 for a 70-64 lead after third. SLUC stretched their lead to nine points, 76-67, early in the fourth quarter and did not trail for rest of the period.
