Benny Lin-Duncan Yao prove their class in semi-final round of 2012 Pan Am Junior Team Event
Men’s Doubles team Benny Lin-Duncan Yao thrashed Italo Antonassi-Ygor Olivera and helped their country to gain access into title match of XXI Pan Am Junior Team Event on July 23, 2012.
This 26-minute battle was staged at Sherwood Park in Alberta, Canada and both teams put all they got to pocket this decisive match point.
However, the local duo survived this nerve-racking tussle by putting convincing figures of 21-12 and 24-22.
Earlier, Brazil and Canada were locked in a tense situation as both were standing just one win away from final match.
The twosome of Benny and Duncan showed strong character in this pressure situation and secured the honour with a splendid straight-set victory.
They established their grip over the game by clinching first match point with a huge 10-point lead.
They employed unusual tactics as many times they unleashed flurry of power packed shots and pushed their rivals to the rear court as they bagged valuable points with impressive net play.
The Brazilian duo did not have any reply to this unbeatable strategy and they remained busy in just returning their challengers’ masterly crafted strokes.
In the first half, Benny and Duncan piled up an indomitable total of 11-5 and entered in second half as leading contenders.
They did not show any mercy in the later part of the game and wrapped the opening segment with 21-12 score on the board.
However, it was not a smooth ride to victory as the opposing team showed commendable fighting spirit in the next game.
Italo and Ygor showed their spark in the beginning of the second set and brought life back to the contest.
They got on track by prevailing in four uninterrupted rallies and started making progress at top gear. This gruelling effort took them to commanding position of 7-4.
Though, they committed few unforced errors but still managed to finish the first half with a respectable total of 11-9.
Later part of the game changed the scenario as it saw Benny and Duncan storming back with a strong reply to counter-balance the situation.
The Canadian pair utilised all of their confidence and brilliance as they finished this battle with a favourable margin of 24-22.
