Benoit Assou-Ekotto urges Chelsea target Luka Modric to stay at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur’s London rivals Chelsea have been trying to lure the 25-year-old midfielder from the club since the beginning of the summer transfer window. leave. The Blues have already had three bids rejected but have not yet given up on the versatile midfielder.

regarding the matter in the last few days of the summer transfer window.
Modric did not feature for Tottenham Hotspur in their UEFA Europa League play-off against Scottish side Hearts and even missed out the clash against Manchester United. While Redknapp claimed the player’s head was not in the right place and that he was suffering
from minor injuries, it was widely believed Modric had refused to play.
However, according to Assou-Ekotto there was no problem with Modric at the club, denying all the rumours of tension because of the speculation. The defender revealed that the team was aware of Modric’s desire to move to Stamford Bridge for Champions League
football, since the Spurs had not managed to qualify for the European competition.

Assou-Ekotto said while speaking to reporters:
“The mood in the camp is good and there is no problem with Luka.
We can all understand that Luka would be interested in a move to Chelsea as they are in the Champions League and we are not.
We hope Luka stays as he is such a big player and we need him if we want to get back into the Champions League, but if he leaves we would all wish him well.”
He continued:
“It would be a major boost if Luka stayed and he says he is happy to stay if the move does not happen.
He has been back in training and he has not caused any trouble because he is a very good professional.”
