The former Lille man is keen to play another season for Olympique de Marseille but says that he still regrets the uncertainty surrounding the club in recent weeks
Both on and off the field, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 are sailing in troubled waters. Behind the scenes, one can imagine what sort of turmoil players and coaching staff is experiencing.
President Vincent Labrune knows that the club is struggling and will lose a few players when the summer transfer window opens. However, for Benoit Cheyrou, playing for Les Phoceens next season has become more important than before.
When asked by a journalist at a news conference yesterday, the 30-year-old said that he still feels that the club can finish the season on a strong note.
“Is it going to be the same coach, the same president, the same players? Nobody knows if he will stay. But we do not question. Today, our goal is to finish the season well,” says Cheyrou before admitting that he is willing to stay at the club.
The Frenchman knows that failure to play in the Champions League is not a good thing for a club like Marseille but says that he wants to stay and help the club back to where it belongs.
“Failure to play in the Champions League next year is negative for the club. we know that it was an accident and for my part, I want to stay because of that, to show that despite failure, we can take OM where it should be. I want to stay.”
This campaign, the former Auxerre man has been heavily criticised by the media and the club’s fans. His future, like many other teammates is unclear and Cheyrou says that everything will be sorted out when the season ends.
“Perhaps here, they don’t want me to stay. I do not know. There will be a discussion later in the season, as is the case every time. They say the same thing everytime but it is the truth.”
Clearly, Cheyrou has been kept in the dark regarding his future and despite his keenness to stay, the midfielder might be asked to leave this summer.
