Benoit Debast seizes Men’s 1500m freestyle gold – 2012 Indian Ocean Meet
Benoit Debast of France seized gold medal of the Men’s 1500m freestyle on concluding day of the 2012 Indian Ocean Meet in St. Paul, Reunion, on Sunday, December 30.
Debast stifled hopes of his opponents in the distant freestyle discipline as he rushed his way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
His notable pace remained prominently ahead of his closest competitor as he tapped the wall for gold medal with an effort of 15 minutes and 19.27 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Mathieu Bachman of France, who was more than a minute slower from his former finisher and tapped the wall for silver medal by clocking an effort of 16 minutes and 23.79 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Jamme Delphin of South Africa, who stayed comfortably slower from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall for bronze medal by producing an effort of 17 minutes and 26.53 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Chris Ah Siong of France, who stayed almost five seconds behind and concluded his race in a time of 17 minutes and 31.79 seconds.
Siong was chased by Simon Bachman of France, who remained considerably slower from his preceding swimmer and made his way to the finishing end for fifth place by touching the wall with an effort of 18 minutes and 56.48 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Nicolas Bouhet of France, who tried hard to improve his position in the playoff but failed to do so. Bouhet remained more than 30 metres slower from his former finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 19 minutes
and 17.11 seconds.
Seventh position of the event was obtained by Arnaud Zoogones of France, who was unable to upset any of his challengers and tapped the wall with the timing of 20 minutes and 13.57 seconds.
Similarly, Ernest Gregory tried hard to improve his position but was unable to finish the race and failed to secure any position.
Furthermore, Debast received a huge round of applause from the audience for his commendable efforts at the prize ceremony of the event.
