Benoit Huot grabs Men’s 200m IM gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Benoit Huot of Canada grabbed gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) in SM10 category on first day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Thursday, August 30.
The Canadian swimmer lived up to the expectations of his fans as he overpowered his challengers in a comfortable manner. He continued his alarming pace throughout the four-lap event and earned his way to the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With his commendable efforts, he remained untouchable from the start and reached the finishing blockade for gold medal in a new Paralympic record time of 2 minutes and 10.01 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Andre Brasil of Brazil, who stayed 2.35 seconds behind and secured silver medal of the race by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 12.36 seconds.
Third fastest spot of the race was obtained by Rick Pendleton of Australia, who remained 2.41 seconds slower from overwhelming his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 14.77 seconds.
Pendleton was chased by Kevin Paul of South Africa, who remained just half a body length behind and failed to reach the victory stand by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 15.26 seconds.
Fifth finest spot of the race was secured by Sven Decaesstecker of Belgium, who stayed 0.73 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and hit the finishing blockade with a timing of 2 minutes and 15.99 seconds.
Subsequently, Decaesstecker was trailed by Lucas Ludwig of Germany, who stayed one and half body length slower from his former swimmer and finished sixth in the event with a timing of 2 minutes and 17.31 seconds.
Seventh position of the swim was secured by Ian Jaryd Silverman of USA, who remained prominent for seventh position by posting a time of 2 minutes and 18.23 seconds.
Isaac Bouckley of Canada was disqualified from the race and thus failed to secure any position in the IM discipline.
In addition, Huot was extremely pleased with his performance in the event and articulated his plans of continuing the same in future.
