Benoit Paire cruises into the second round by beating Pere Riba – Aircel Chennai Open

Spaniard competitor, Pere Riba, was destroyed by French player Benoit Paire in the men’s singles first round match at the 2012 Chennai Open which was held on January 2, 2012 in Chennai, India. It was a one-sided affair as Paire
won the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
The 23-year-old Riba continuously struggled in the match and was no match for the style with which Paire played his game. Ranked at number 89 in the world, Riba, was not given any room to play his shots. As the match progressed,
Riba could not score any ace but conceded five double faults. On the other hand, Paire cruised with dominance by scoring eight aces which were enough to intimidate the Spaniard. Riba’s service games and shot play were off target. He could not break any of
Paire’s serves and let him break serve on four occasiona. The Spanish got a setback in both the sets because of his error-ridden game play. His wobbly stance on the tennis court made him uncomfortable throughout the contest.
The French used his service games at the fullest to take a decisive lead in both the sets. He won an impressive 24 out of 25 points on his first serve which accelerated him towards a win. In the second set, he managed to win 11
out of 19 points. Although the numbers decreased but since he was going steadily, therefore, the decline did not affect his performance. On the other hand, Riba won 13 out of 20 points from his first serve, while 12 out of 32 points in the second set.
Riba was unable to win this match even though he had a higher win-loss ratio on outdoor courts. Riba has won 10 matches and lost 20 on outdoor courts. Paire, who has won only three matches on outdoor courts and lost seven of them,
proved to be a much better player than Riba. The French was composed and consistent in his serves with decent shot selection and correct use of the tennis court.
The Spaniard was comprehensively beaten by Paire 6-2, 6-1, which would compel Riba to look into his strategies and game play for future tournaments. He needs to take a look at his performance against Paire to take corrective measures.
After winning the first round match, Paire will now face the Israeli player Dudi Sela in the second round of the tournament.
