Benoit Paire devastates Sergei Bubka in round one – Orange Open Guadeloupe 2012
Eighth seed, Benoit Paire, crushed the Ukrainian rising star, Sergiy Bubka, with double breadsticks at the Orange Open Guadeloupe 2012 on Wednesday. He jolted down a 6-1, 6-1 victory against the world number 182 to power into the second round at this ATP
(Association of Tennis Professionals) Challenger Tour event taking place in Le Gosier, Guadeloupe.
Facing each other for the third time, Pair took down the 25-year-old in 39 minutes. After earning this success, he not only maintained his winning record against Bubka but also secured a place in the round of 16.
Ranked 96th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Pair stormed into the opening set and swiftly swiped in entire serves without facing any real trouble. He cashed in half of the four break opportunities to pull out the opener by
winning six games to one.
Pair produced a better first serve share of 65 per cent as opposed to the Ukrainian’s 59 per cent and mustered the set further by registering a perfect win on it. He spilled more errors but fired six aces to cover it up.
The 22-year-old maintained his intensity in the following set and smoothly plucked entire serves without facing any breakpoint. He converted three out of four break chances to his advantage, subsequently registering an exceptional 6-1 success.
The French again clobbered a better first serve share and spectacularly penned down a perfect win on it.
Paire will next confront the Japanese competitor, Yuichi Sugita, who trashed the Spanish challenger, Arnau Brugues-Davi, with a breadstick to advance. The Japanese got the better of his opponent after capitalising on five out of 13 break opportunities. He
required one hour and 16 minutes to formulate a 6-1, 6-4 score line.
Benoit’s fellow citizen, Gianni Mina, will join him in the second round. He outclassed his qualifying compatriot, Julien Obry, with a 7-6(4), 7-5 to occupy this spot. The 20-year-old outshined Obry in the tie-breaker to swipe in the opener. He cashed in
the only break opportunity in the end of the following set to earn the limelight by winning seven games to five.
