Benoit Paire gets a close win over Michael Ryderstedt in opening round – Todi Challenger 2011
Firing up with the opening round of the Todi Challenger 2011, An ATP Challenger Tour, on Tuesday 13th September, Michael Ryderstedt, Swedish, played the Frenchman, Benoit Paire, however, failed to make it through round
2. Paire, seeded 4th in the event, took 2 hours and 3 minutes to captivate a 7-6(4), 7-5 victory over the Swede challenger.
Seeking through the first ever head on match against the French world no. 115, Ryderstedt was comparatively on the losing end of the fixture. Playing most his last 10 fixtures on hard fast circuit, the Swede had less chances to
make it into the next round. On the other hand, Paire had a perfect winning streak of 7 matches and had also won the Brasov Challenger, Romania.
Finally the two walked onto the Classic clay court to start off with the 1st round showdown. With a fast and cheeky start, the 26-year-old Swede pulled off the first two games with breakpoint win in the second. Continuing
to dominate the set from the start, Ryderstedt increased his lead to 3-0 before the Frenchman pulled off with his first win of the set, 3-1.
With a startling comeback in the mid-set, Paire broke the 26-year-old and levelled up winning two consecutive games, 3-3. Equalling up again at 4-4 and 5-5 the set went into an eventual tiebreaker. Wining through the tiebreaker,
the 22-year-old world Nol.115 went on snatching away the first set from the Swede 7-6(4) and led the match, 1-0.
The two then continued after a 5 minutes break with Paire to open up the second set. Losing the opening game, Ryderstedt came back levelling the scores winning game 2 on his serve. The 26-year-old went on bulldozing the Frenchman
with a similar early break tactic and took out two back-to-back games and led 1-3.
Nevertheless, the Frenchman has a bigger show to show. Repeating the first set comeback, Paire won 3 straight games including a breakpoint win in the 6th. However, the Swede did level the scores back, 4-4, serving next.
With scores once again level at 5-5, Paire served and almost lost a breakpoint.
However, the 2nd seeded went on derailing the Swede from the Todi Challenger when he broke the last game making game 12 the last game of the match. Winning set two 7-5, the 22-year-old mustered the match with a satisfactory
walk into the next round.
Paire now sits to play the local lad, Alessio Di Mauro, in the 2nd round of the 2011 Internazionali di Tennis dell'Umbria to battle it out for the quarter-final seat. The Frenchman is likely to win the match as his stats
have been undoubtedly perfect.
