Aston Villa stand-in captain Darren Bent has been impressed by new manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Lambert’s football philosophy and has hailed his attacking approach ahead of the new Premier League season.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international striker was named as captain for the side following Stiliyan Petrov’s absence on account of his illness. Petrov, who was diagnosed with leukaemia, has been receiving treatment since last season. However, to the relief of Villa fans
and players, Petrov’s cancer went into remission last week and the player has gotten better.
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358 has been given the task of leading the team out on the pitch, as well as leading the front line. As captain and first choice striker, Bent is relishing the opportunity and is looking to retain the armband.
The striker has had an impressive pre-season so far, and is looking forward to improving both his individual and the club’s form. Aston Villa had a very turbulent campaign last season, narrowly avoiding relegation and managing only four wins at home. Bent
hopes to improve upon their dismal form and repay the fans back for their continuous support and backing.
Now, with a new manager at the helm, Bent is confident that Villa will be a better team next season. The striker has been really impressed by what he has seen by Lambert, and has hailed his attacking philosophy and approach.
"It was great when the gaffer came in a couple of months ago and said he wanted us to play with a real freedom," Bent said. “He wants us to be really dangerous and create loads of chances. He wants us to be an attacking outfit.”
"He has a philosophy where he says: 'If we're going to lose, we're going to lose having a go'. He wants us to have a right good go at every single team. That's how it should be.”
"We have attacking players in the team who can cause real damage and he's told them to go out and do their stuff. It's certainly going to be a dream for me playing that way as a striker."
Aston Villa will start their Premier League campaign with a game against newly promoted West Ham United on the 18th of August 2012.
