Bent joins Wolves on loan
Wolverhampton Wanderers have signed Marcus Bent on loan from Birmingham City until January.
Bent has failed to force his way into Alex McLeish's plans at Birmingham and will now link up with Mick McCarthy at Wolves. It seems a good move for all parties concerned because the player can now go to a club where he can expect to play a lot of games.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxley said: "Marcus is an experienced striker who has played plenty of Premier League football and scored goals. People still talk about whether we've got enough Premier League experience and Marcus will add to that."
Bent has a number of skills and attributes that should see him do well at Wolves. It will be very important that he has an impact at the club because Wolves are expected to struggle this season. He has to start positively and quickly for his new club.
Skills and attributes
Bent will offer an injection of pace up front for Wolves, which is something that they do not currently have a great deal of. It will allow the team to play the ball in behind, which is much more difficult to defend against. Wolves need a player that can stretch an opposition defence and make space for others
Bent is very good in the air so he will be a threat from set pieces and corners. Any striker that can score goals with both his feet and his head will be valuable regardless of the club and the league. This means he will give defenders more than one thing to think about.
Moxley added: "He's also a different type of striker to what we have in that he's a physical presence. We needed someone after the departure of Andy Keogh and Marcus can do a job for us."
It should not take Bent too long to settle in at the club. He has moved around clubs before in the past and this will give him experience of how to react when he walks through the door at a new club. It ensures that he can not waste any time and will hit the ground running.
Betting advice
Bent will start a lot of games up front for Wolves. He is a candidate to score in any game so back him on a match by match basis. Avoid backing him to be top scorer in the Premier League.
